 | 06:41 pm - Getting down to the wire.. I'm writing my essay for my application, and I was wondering if there's an unwritten rule of how long you can make it. So far it's 832 words and at this rate, I think it'll go a bit over 1000.
Also, would anyone be willing to proofread and offer any input on it when I'm done? I'm probably going to have it finished by 5:00 PM EST tomorrow. I want to submit my applications tomorrow.
( And lastly... )
Thanks, guys. :)

 | 02:48 pm I unfortunately just found out that the Psychology AA program is being discontinued in 2011. I been registered since 2007-2008 (I'm not sure) but I've had a lot of health problems that made me unable to fully commit to school. I've only taken one class so far.
Can you help me figure out what should I do?? I'm in panic mode right now.

 | 01:35 pm - strong history schools? so my brother is a junior in high school, and is really interested in political science, military history, and pretty much anything to do with history and war. He has no idea what schools to even look at, so I was wondering if any of you knew of schools that have strong programs in the above mentioned. Obviously i've looked on collegeboard and google and whatnot, but any other input would be great. Thanks!

In the first two years, the competition brought in over £65,000 (that's $107,260.73 U.S.!), with entries from 130 countries last year. Renaissance10 recently joined LiveJournal to meet other passionate photographers and find supportive friends.

 | 02:30 am - oh dear Sorry to be posting twice about something related, but this feels like an emergency. I'm fairly certain I'm going to apply ED II to Bowdoin, and today I printed out the ED Agreement that I need to mail in by Jan. 1st. It asks for a counselor's signature. This is a problem, because, you know, I'm on vacation and so is my college counselor and I'm worried that she's (worst case scenario) not checking emails, checking emails but is out of town, or is in town but would be insanely pissed that I didn't get her signature before school ended. I kind of can't believe this happened, but I guess because not that many people from my school do ED II and there's no real reason to print out an ED Agreement in advance, I never realized I would need her signature. I emailed her explaining the situation and have gotten no reply so far. My dad said that if she agrees to it, she can authorize somebody else signing her name. Is that truly legal? If she doesn't get back to me, would signing her name and later explaining what I had to do absolutely not be an option? She gave her cell number to a friend of mine (not in an inappropriate way, just for questions) and if she doesn't get back to me by Monday or Tuesday I'm going to call her, but that might not lead to any results. Ahhhhhhhh is there anything else I can do? I'm freaking out.

 | 07:48 pm - Online college? I have done online and traditional college, and I really enjoyed them both. I prefer traditional, but I lead a very busy life and it is not an option right now. I can't see myself NOT taking classes for much longer and it is really bothering me. I want to take online classes again but I had a terrible experience before (via Kaplan University). Does anyone have any experiences -- good OR bad? Any suggestions? Current Mood: aggravated

 | 05:14 pm - Writing? For the first time in months since my near death experience, I am thinking about writing something again. And by writing "something", I mean a story-like thing, not just emails and dreams I've had, which is about the extent of my writing since my hiatus. (Oh, yeah, I don't think many people even know about my near-death experience. Oh well, at least I learned that I am afraid of large bodies of water and drowning in them)
Anyway, so I am in Taiwan right now; tomorrow I will go to Japan. It would be an awesome trip, except that I'm pretty much that whatever god in the universe is watching over me has made it his/her goal in my life to make sure that this time of year (i.e., the Christmas season) is unbearable. No further details about that at this present moment.
So now I have two new ideas for some stories I could right: 1. The first would be entitled "My Mother's Devil." Basically this would be yet another story about a girl whose mother has died and the things that she has to learn to cope with after her death. I don't know if anyone noticed this about my writing, but every story had a main character with a dead mother. I have mommy issues, if you couldn't tell. So this story would be yet another outlet to vent about my relationship with my mother pre and post her death... mostly revolving around my internal struggle with my love and admiration for her versus the fact that I think she was an idiot and made the worst decisions in the world. Also, my existence is the exact cause of her downfall in life (and death).
2. The second one is still quite jumbled in my head and hasn't quite organized itself yet. One possible title is "How I beat my husband's ass with a hotel room ironing board after I found out through Windows Live Messenger that he cheated on me during multiple business trips with a girl in Shanghai and then after the fact told me that there were problems with our marriage that were all my fault and if I didn't change then he couldn't live with me anymore so I stupidly changed and did everything he asked and more yet he continued to make plans to cheat on me during his next trip and then when he got caught he wanted to 'work it out'." However, I am thinking this title is a bit too long. So instead, I might just go with "How I beat my husband's ass with a hotel room ironing board" or perhaps even more simply, "How to Murder Your Cheating Husband." Maybe it will be a self-help book. Any suggestions are more than welcome. As you can see, I am a bit partial to the ironing board method. Unusual and painful methods of genital mutation would also be appreciated.

 | 11:37 am - LiveJournal Major Notes: Get your holiday fix!

Holiday debuggeryWe know there were a few kinks with the holiday promotion. We've been working very hard to get them ironed out. If you have a paid/permanent account, keep on sending those coupons. Here's an update:
- If you were unable to send out multiple coupons at a time, please perform a hard refresh, and you should be good to go.
- If you redeemed a coupon to upgrade your account and the balance at checkout was $0 instead of $9.95 or $15, this means your upgrade did not go through (nor were you charged). We've straightened this out, so you can now apply your holiday coupon toward the purchase of an annual paid account.
- If you tried to redeem a holiday coupon and had trouble using a gift certificate to cover the balance of an annual paid account, we identified the root problem. If this happened to you, you can now use your holiday coupon together with your gift certificate.
- If the number of holiday coupons you have available suddenly goes up (instead of down), this might be due to recipients declining the coupons, at which point your pool of available coupons will be replenished and, therefore, increase.
- If you need assistance with holiday coupons or pretty much anything else (well, LiveJournal related), please open a support request and we'll be more than happy to help!
Tweaks- There were some initial glitches displaying results on My Guests, but we've worked them out. We hope you'll check out who's been checking you out!
- Some of you reported formatting issues using the Rich Text Editor (i.e., line breaks were being removed incorrectly). We've implemented a fix! Thanks so much for your patience.
Give a little extra!
We're pleased to report that we've already sold over 100 virtual red ribbons in honor of National AIDS Awareness month. | 02:20 pm - Greece in mid-April: Athens + island hopping I'm an American college student studying abroad in London. My host university calendar works out so that we have a one month "spring break" encompassing the entire moth of April. During this time, the one place that my friends and I all really want to go is Greece. We are planning on seeing other destinations during this time, so we are planning on spending a max of ten days throughout Greece, a lot of it in the islands.
The thing is, we will probably be a fairly large group (8+ college students aged 20-26 -- let the drama ensue!) and we rarely all agree upon what to do. Many of my friends only want to go to Greece for the beaches and to work on their tans. I love a good beach day, but I'm also pretty athletic and looking forward to going on at least one good hike or doing something more actively outdoorsy than just sitting around on the sand/pebbles/volcanic lava that makes up the shoreline. Our group also has some people who are really interested in culture, history, art, etc. while others would be fine partying every night and sleeping through a good part of the day. I'm closer to the former than the latter, though I am looking forward to exploring the local nightlife scene -- I'll just set an alarm to make sure I'm up in the morning!
With this in mind, I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the cities/islands to visit in Greece that will cater to the widest variety of traveler types? Where should we go if we're looking for beaches AND museums, great nightlife AND gorgeous nature hikes? (I would even be up for stuff more long the lines of 'adventure tourism' but I think that makes me the odd woman out among this group.) Athens is a must for me, and is most likely where we will begin and end our journey, but I also would really love to see some out-of-the-way (or just breathtakingly beautiful) islands, in particular Santorini. Also, any advice on how long to stay in a given place would be great. The plan is for this to be the more relaxing leg of the trip, for those who want it to be, so I'm figuring no less than two nights in any single destination to minimize the feeling of being too hurried.
Any other recommendations -- restaurants, hostels, local dishes to try, sights to see etc. -- are more than welcome!
